the critical viewer // research study for the design project
The Critical Viewer is a research study for my Graduate Project at BA Interior Design at Chelsea College of Arts.
“The Critical Viewer” explored how does the museum space inform the value of things, what are the impacts of the consumerism culture on the museum institution, and how does contemporary museum creates the relationship with the audience. Thinking about possible future of the gallery space, I defined increasing issues in the discourse, drawing speculative solutions, based on the previously described ideas and concepts in the contemporary literature. Referring to the anti-museum theory Cladders (1967) and the concept of ‘museuion’ Maak (2011), the future of the museum is in shifting the narrative of the museum: from spreading the hierarchy of value, set by the culture and society, into creating the community based on the critical viewers.
The continuation of this study and the project design is called “The Critical Place”.
