the critical place // spatial design

The Critical Place is a community based art space in Dilston Grove, connecting the meeting place for creatives, exhibiting and performing space, garden, community kitchen, spaces for workshops and educational events. The concept is to collectively form a place, responding for community needs, by engaging the local audiences into the series of activities and events. Intersecting together former church and the gallery space - two socially normed as 'silent' spaces with dynamic communal kitchen, dining room and garden spaces, the aim is to create new way of experiencing art and change an attitude towards art spaces.

Parallel to my research and the development of the spatial design and the programme, I established the virtual platform for sharing critical reflections about different cultural events, exhibitions, places and feelings related to curating.

‘the critical place’ and an editorial created in collaboration with Nicole Rambla Bedwell ‘where to sit?’ were part of the 2022 BA Interior Design graduate show at Chelsea College of Arts: ‘Re-’. I co-curated and co-produced the show. From writing a copy, designing visual identity up to designing the space and making actual display furniture.
