Craftology Design Residency → 2-month residency programme exploring ecological materials and AI-driven creative processes, developed at the DesignNature campus.

As a coordinator and a curator of the residency I have participated in the recruitment process of the participants and the mentors, I developed the residency programme and organised and curated the public launch event at the DesignNature campus and streamed online. The residency culminated during the Craftology Final Show, featuring the participants’ projects with the open panel discussion.
I have wrote critical text describing and summarising Craftology as a speculative project in the online publication, published by the DesignNature.
The Craftology design residency at DesignNature has emerged as a living research laboratory - an experimental space for investigating how authorship is evolving in response to rapidly advancing technologies. Over two intensive months, residents, in the interdisciplinary team of five, explored new creative trajectories, collectively rethinking the roles of humans, nature, and AI in contemporary design practice.
Craftology is a creative residency program for designers and artists exploring the integration of artificial intelligence into craft and design practice, in dialogue with nature and sustainable development. Hosted at the DesignNature campus, equipped with AI, VR, CNC, 3D printing, ceramics, woodworking, and versatile creative workshops, the program treats AI as a collaborative partner - accelerating experimentation while preserving human intuition. Participants explore ecological materials, responsible production methods, and regenerative approaches, developing innovative prototypes and new models of human-AI collaboration where authorship is shared, design becomes a co-creation process, and the artist evolves into a curator and interpreter of algorithmic creativity.

Craftology
Today, our relationship with nature is entering a new dimension. Increasingly, we find ourselves separated from it - immersed in a state of constant external stimulation and gradually transitioning into an alternative, digital reality. How does technology reshape the way we think, speak, move, and exist? How does it transform the world we inhabit - its architecture, design, environments, and surroundings? Can technology be understood as a new form of nature? Can we imagine a new ecology grounded in the symbiosis of technological systems and the natural world? How do we learn to navigate its logic, and how might we redraw the boundary between what is natural and what is artificially produced? Is such a distinction still relevant? Where does this shift position creatives - designers, artists, craftspeople, architects - and how does it alter the way design itself is conceived?
The Craftology design residency emerged as a living research laboratory, investigating new trajectories of authorship shaped by the accelerated development of technological tools. Over the course of two intensive months, residents posed critical questions, collectively reframing the roles of the human, nature, and AI within the field of contemporary design. By approaching AI from multiple perspectives, they explored its capabilities, experimented with unconventional datasets, and developed new modes of collaboration with artificial intelligence to engage with natural phenomena and their materiality.
Sounds, organic forms, and elemental forces were processed through AI as part of the Craftology methodology. The works presented in the exhibition are conceived not as final outcomes but as points of departure - initiations into an evolving process that extends beyond the exhibition space.
And what is yet to come?
